The Kansas football team has lost its third linebacker of the offseason, as Logan Brantley announced on Monday that he will enter the portal.

“With careful thought, prayer, and reflection, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining,” Brantley wrote in a post on X. “I am extremely grateful to the University of Kansas for the opportunity to grow both on and off the field, to my coaches and teammates for the relationships, lessons and memories that will stay with me forever, and to the city of Lawrence for the support and love shown along the way.”

Brantley was a redshirt sophomore in 2025, but he should still indeed have three years left to play because he missed most of 2024 due to injury.

A buzzy three-star recruit coming out of Cherry Creek High School in Denver, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker played twice on kick coverage as a true freshman, then four times as a redshirt freshman while also receiving one snap on defense, according to Pro Football Focus.

He returned from injury to contribute in 2025 at weak-side linebacker, where he spent most of the year third on the depth chart behind Bangally Kamara and Jon Jon Kamara. Brantley played 104 snaps on special teams and 53 on defense. He received the most extended action of his career when KU faced Wagner on Aug. 29 and Bangally Kamara was injured and Jon Jon Kamara got ejected for targeting early on.

Brantley finished that game with a PFF grade of 59.3. Overall, he recorded eight tackles with half a sack during the 2025 season.

Now KU will have to look elsewhere at linebacker. Brantley’s transfer announcement follows those of JaCorey Stewart and Jon Jon Kamara. The Jayhawks have experience at middle linebacker with Trey Lathan and Joseph Sipp Jr., but weak-side linebacker presents a significant need in the portal when it opens on Jan. 2. Other young players on the roster include Malachi Curvey and 2026 signees Joseph Credit and Josh Galbreath.
