The Kansas football team debuted a new “Whitehawk” uniform in a video posted on social media on Friday morning.

According to KU’s post, the white alternate jersey will be worn at some point in October, a month in which the Jayhawks have away games at UCF on Oct. 4 and at Texas Tech on Oct. 11.

The Whitehawk is essentially an inverted variant of the Blackhawk uniform that KU debuted in 2023 against Illinois and Kansas State and wore again against UNLV in 2024. The uniforms have several aspects in common, including the 1941 Jayhawk logo (the “warhawk”) featured on the helmet, circus font “Kansas” on the front of the jersey, “K” flag on the back, and crimson and blue stripes on the pants.

The primary difference is the Whitehawk’s use of red numbers with blue outlines, as opposed to the other way around on the black jersey.

The full white uniform in the video is worn by defensive end Justice Finkley, but the video also showcases several different possible combinations featuring the new white jersey, including one with red pants (modeled by quarterback Jalon Daniels), one with blue pants (center Bryce Foster), one with KU’s blue helmet (safety Lyrik Rawls) and one featuring both a black helmet and black pants (running back Daniel Hishaw Jr.).

Hishaw’s combination is similar to one KU employed at BYU last November, the first time it used a portion of the Blackhawk uniform in a road game. The main difference is that Hishaw’s black helmet has a red facemask, rather than a white one.

In addition to its base home and away uniforms, which it redesigned in 2023, KU has now debuted one alternate uniform each of the last three seasons. The Jayhawks wore all-red uniforms last September for a home game against TCU at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. They also still have a light-blue alternate that they deployed in the 2024 season opener against Lindenwood.
