Joeseph Skipworth, a tight end recruit in the class of 2025, announced on Saturday night that he has flipped his commitment from Kansas to Mississippi State.

Skipworth is a three-star prospect from Pace High School in Pace, Florida, who had been committed to KU since June 12. He received a scholarship offer from the Bulldogs right around the time he made that decision.

“I want to give thanks to the coaching staff at KU for offering me the opportunity to be a part of the KU family,” Skipworth wrote in an Instagram post, in part. “But after many conversations with my family and some self reflection, I have de-committed from KU.”

The 6-foot-5 tight end was the only player at his position in KU’s 2025 class. His flip leaves the Jayhawks with another hole to fill, potentially in the transfer portal at the conclusion of the season, and drops them down to 15 incoming freshmen.

KU doesn’t have too many productive tight ends set to come back next season, with Tevita Ahoafi-Noa, Jared Casey and Trevor Kardell all seniors. Veteran Iowa State transfer DeShawn Hanika, who has not played this season due to injury, could potentially return, along with Leyton Cure and younger players like Carson Bruhn, Quinton Conley and Jaden Hamm.

Two players from Florida, Darrion Jones and Chris McCorkle, remain in the 2025 class after Skipworth’s departure.

This is the second flip that KU has been on the wrong side of this fall, after offensive lineman Juju Marks committed to Nebraska; however, wide receiver Bryson Hayes recently flipped from Nebraska to the Jayhawks.
