Kansas football recruiting

The Kansas football team picked up another in-state recruit on Sunday night in Tate Nagy, who plays quarterback at Blue Valley West but is expected to help KU bolster its future group of wide receivers.

Nagy joins Jackson Cook from Snellville, Georgia, among the wide receivers in the 2025 class who will play a role in accounting for the losses of Lawrence Arnold, Luke Grimm, Quentin Skinner and more following the 2024 season.

Nagy, a three-star prospect and the 14th commitment in the class overall for KU, is the son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator and former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy.

The younger Nagy stands 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds and went through a pretty expedited recruitment process that saw him receive his first Division I offers from Ball State, KU and Kentucky earlier in June, then announce his commitment to KU on Sunday following an official visit during the weekend.

Nagy is the 14th commitment overall for a class that continues to swell in size and will have to get even bigger in order to account for the numerous seniors the Jayhawks are losing next year.

Jones committed on Saturday night

Kansas continued to bolster its secondary on Saturday night with the commitment of Darrion Jones, a safety from Cape Coral, Florida.

Jones is not yet rated by all services, but 247Sports lists him as a three-star prospect. He had previously included KU in a top three with Miami and Ohio State and had reported offers from Iowa State, Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss and more.

The Jayhawks’ defensive tackles coach Jim Panagos offered him a scholarship back in February, as Jones said on social media, and then Jones came to Lawrence as part of this final weekend of official visits.

Jones, who is listed by Rivals as a 6-foot-3, 178-pound athlete, becomes the second player expected to play safety in the 2025 freshman class after Brandon Schmelzle, an athlete from Axtell, and the second Floridian overall after tight end Joeseph Skipworth.

Safety is another of the numerous positions expected to see significant turnover for KU following the 2024 season, when Marvin Grant and O.J. Burroughs exhaust their eligibility, even though Devin and Jalen Dye both have an additional year to play.

Jones and Schmelzle are the latest safety recruits to play for defensive coordinator and position coach Brian Borland, following early enrollee Damani Maxson in the 2024 class and Taylor Davis in 2023.
