KU continues to rebuild receiving corps, adds Wentz

Kansas football recruiting

Kansas added its second transfer wide receiver in the span of a week on Friday evening when it earned the commitment of Levi Wentz.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, the Pittsburgh native Wentz will be a sixth-year senior as he comes off a 40-catch, 621-yard season with UAlbany at the FCS level.

He took an interesting route to get there. According to a story in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s high school sports vertical, Wentz didn’t play football at Pine-Richland High School until his senior year and promptly reached the state playoffs. He joined Old Dominion as a member of the class of 2020 to play defense and moved around between several positions before eventually landing on offense as a wide receiver.

Wentz redshirted in 2021 and had one catch for 42 yards in three appearances in 2022 before transferring to UAlbany. With the Great Danes, he caught 16 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown as a redshirt sophomore in 2023, and also returned 14 kicks for an average of 23.5 yards apiece, plus six punts for 7.5 yards per return.

KU was the only high-major program from which Wentz reported an offer. Other offers included East Carolina, James Madison, Liberty, North Texas, San Diego State, UTSA and more before he received the opportunity at KU on Sunday.

Wentz’s commitment follows that of former Ball State wide receiver Cam Pickett as the Jayhawks replenish their wide-receiver room from the FCS and Group of Five ranks. Other reported transfer targets include Bryson Canty (Columbia), Dekel Crowdus (Hawaii), Bobby Golden (Akron) and Emmanuel Henderson (Alabama). Currently on the roster are Doug Emilien and Keaton Kubecka.
