KU punter Damon Greaves punts the ball away to the Houston Cougars on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

Next year’s revamp of the Kansas special teams units will be even more comprehensive than previously believed, as a pair of Jayhawks will transfer.

Reserve kicker Charlie Weinrich officially entered the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon, per his announcement on social media while around the same time starting punter Damon Greaves did so as well, according to multiple reports.

Weinrich’s move shortly follows the recent commitment of South Alabama transfer kicker Laith Marjan. With his departure and Tabor Allen and Owen Piepergerdes both having gone through senior day, KU is on track to feature an entirely new group of kickers next season.

After losing a kicking battle to Allen in the preseason, Weinrich, who started his career at Nebraska, kicked off once during the 2024 campaign.

Greaves saw much more extensive action after coming to KU as a freshman from Busselton, Australia, in 2023. In two years as the Jayhawks’ starting punter, he kicked 65 times with an average of 40.7 yards per punt. The two seasons were quite different, as in 2024 Greaves had five more punts of 50 yards or longer but also produced his first two touchbacks and had 11 punts returned — including one for a touchdown against TCU — as compared to two for minus-6 yards in 2023. His entry into the portal was first reported by 247Sports.

Fellow punter Grayden Addison also went through senior-day festivities so KU will likely need to look for a new punter to pair with Marjan on special teams next season.
