The Kansas football team will host several of its top recruiting targets for official visits this weekend and could receive one or more commitments from players before they leave campus.

Two highly regarded local players — Free State’s Calvin Clements and Highland Park’s Tre Richardson — are among those who will be visiting the university from Friday evening through late Sunday afternoon.

Surahz Buncom, a wide receiver from Chula Vista, California, and Jarred Sample, a linebacker from Cypress, Texas, have said they will be in attendance. Others set to visit reportedly include Keaton Kubecka, a wide receiver from Austin, Texas; Logan Brantley, a linebacker from Englewood, Colorado; and Tony Terry Jr., a defensive end from Jackson, Missouri.

Kansas received its first commitment from a player in the Class of 2023 on Monday when Taylor Davis, a safety from Missouri City, Texas, told the coaches he will attend the school.

Buncom, who narrowed his list of choices to five earlier in the week, intends to make his decision public on Saturday. He was scheduled to visit Kansas later this month but moved his visit up to this weekend at the request of the coaching staff, which he said told him he is “No. 1 on their recruiting board and a priority target.”

“I’ve been recruited by KU for almost a year now and have done a lot of research myself so a lot of my questions and concerns have already been answered,” Buncom said. “I’m really just looking to get more of a feel for Lawrence and tour more of the campus. The relationships and bond that I have with the staff is already there and I’ve visited unofficially already so I’m pretty comfortable with the area.”

Clements, a 6-foot-7 offensive tackle who was named to the Journal-World’s All-Area team in December, received a scholarship offer from Kansas before last season — when he hadn’t even played in a varsity game for Free State.

Now a three-star recruit who is considered the eighth-best player in Kansas, Clements is up to seven scholarship offers, with Kansas State, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa State also inviting him to join them.

Richardson, who is 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, won the 200 meters in 22.32 seconds at the Class 5A track and field championships last month. A three-star prospect and the No. 12 player in the state, he is being recruited by Kansas to play wide receiver or running back.

He has made the trek from Topeka to Lawrence several times, and he has also received scholarship offers from New Mexico State, Northern Iowa and Penn.

Sample, Kubecka and Terry are considered three-star prospects by Rivals.com. Brantley, who has not yet been evaluated by the site, has received scholarship offers from Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota and Washington State, among others.

After the visits end Sunday, Kansas will host a football camp on Wednesday, followed by another round of official visits the following weekend.
