The Kansas football program’s 2022 recruiting class lost its second prospect in a week on Tuesday, when Texas prep Jacobe Chester announced he had decommitted from KU.

Rated a three-star athlete by Rivals, Chester called his recruitment “100% open” in a tweet announcing his decision to back out with the Jayhawks.

Chester gave his nonbinding pledge to KU back in early March, when Les Miles was still the head coach.

While Chester hasn’t reported any new scholarship offers since the summer, the ones he picked up after committing to KU were from Northern Arizona, Texas Southern, UNLV, Incarnate Word and Sam Houston.

A safety at Fort Bend Marshall High, in Missouri City, Texas, Chester was recruited to KU initially by assistants Emmett Jones and Chevis Jackson, who remain on staff with new head coach Lance Leipold.

Chester’s decommitment came a week after another 2022 prospect, Jalon Peoples, announced he wouldn’t be remaining in KU’s class.

The Jayhawks now have six players in their upcoming recruiting class. Only one of them — Lee’s Summit, Mo. defensive back Dewuan Mack — committed when Miles was still running the program.

The soonest any of the high school seniors currently tied to KU can sign and make their pledges to the program official is in December.
