A second former Kansas defensive lineman has emerged from the transfer portal in SEC country.

Defensive end Marcus Harris announced Friday his commitment to Auburn, less than two weeks after his former KU teammate, nose tackle Da’Jon Terry, decided to transfer to Tennessee.

“Auburn is a great program and it’s close to home,” Harris, a native of Montgomery, Ala., told Rivals. “It feels great to be coming back home.”

A redshirt sophomore listed most recently on KU’s roster at 6-foot-2 and 280 pounds, Harris completed spring practices with the Jayhawks and then decided to transfer shortly after the program hired Lance Leipold.

Harris and Terry were roommates and close friends, as well as a D-line tandem that many within the program expected to make an impact for years to come. Both were members of former head coach Les Miles’ first recruiting class and both redshirted their first season before working their way into the starting lineup in 2020.

At D-end, Harris started five games this past fall, finishing with 27 total tackles, a team-high 7.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery while appearing in eight games.

Recruited by former KU defensive coordinator DJ Eliot, Harris was a two-star prospect in the Class of 2019. But it only took a little more than a week of Harris having his name in the portal for Auburn to welcome him in as a transfer.

According to Rivals, Harris chose Auburn over Tennessee, Iowa, Houston, Miami, Pitt, West Virginia and others.

“I love the environment there,” Harris told Rivals. “The fans, they are the best in the country. It feels great to be coming home and playing at Auburn in front of those fans and also playing in front of my family.”
