University of Kansas football recruiting

It turns out neither of the Class of 2022 prospects from College Station, Texas, who committed to the Jayhawks will end up playing football at Kansas.

Just like his high school teammate decided a day earlier, former KU recruit Houston Thomas severed ties with the Jayhawks on Monday.

Rated a three-star tight end by Rivals, Thomas decommitted the day after his College Station High teammate, three-star offensive tackle Cory Hendrix, did the same.

“After praying over my decision and talking to my family and friends, I have decided to decommit from the University of Kansas,” Thomas wrote on Twitter. “My recruitment is now 100% open.”

Both Hendrix and Thomas were recruited by KU offensive line coach Lee Grimes, who isn’t expected to be retained by new head coach Lance Leipold. According to reports, Leipold is bringing several of his former Buffalo assistants, including offensive line coach Scott Fuchs, with him to KU.

As of now, the Jayhawks still have five high school juniors committed to the program. Nikki Taylor, an athlete from Alabama, committed in April, while Emmett Jones was the interim head coach.

The other four prospects in the program’s 2022 class initially committed to KU while Les Miles was still the head coach.
