Kansas University football recruiting

For the second time this summer, the Kansas football program has landed a three-star cornerback from the Dallas area, as Anthony Davis announced late Thursday night his commitment to the Jayhawks.

“Let’s ride,” Davis tweeted out to mark the occasion, mentioning two of the KU assistants who led his recruitment, receivers coach Emmett Jones and cornerbacks coach Chevis Jackson, in his announcement.

A three-star prospect according to Rivals, Davis chose Kansas over his other two finalists, Colorado and SMU, the latter being a program close to home for the standout defensive back from Dallas Skyline High.

In June, Davis visited KU at the same time as three-star corner Jalon Peoples, from Cedar Hill, Texas. Peoples soon after became the first recruit to commit to the Jayhawks on new head coach Lance Leipold’s watch.

In an interview with Jon Kirby of Jayhawk Slant, Davis spoke highly of Jones, who used to coach at Skyline from 2006-11.

“He’s cool, and he was honest. He didn’t guarantee a spot. But he says if I work for it, I’d definitely have a chance. And that’s what I like,” Davis told Jayhawk Slant.

The newest addition to the Class of 2022 also credited Jones for selling him on KU football.

“Both Coach Jones and Coach Jackson have been telling me how I can help and how I can develop in their program,” he said. “My relationship with them has always been good.”

The Jayhawks currently have six high school prospects committed for their next recruiting class. All verbal commitments, of course, are nonbinding. The earliest any of the recruits can sign with KU and make their ties to the program official is in December.
