After a little more than a month in the NCAA’s transfer portal, former Kansas inside linebacker Denzel Feaster has found his next college football home.

Feaster announced on Monday his plans to play his final season at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The Roadrunners finished 7-5 this past year, went 5-2 in Conference USA and played in the First Responder Bowl.

A defensive starter for KU during the Jayhawks’ winless 2020 season, Feaster’s senior year with the Jayhawks got cut short after five games due to an undisclosed injury.

In his five starts, the 6-foot-3, 224-pound linebacker from Austin, Texas, finished with 20 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble before missing the final four games of the season.

Feaster first joined the Jayhawks in their 2015 signing class, when David Beaty was the head coach. He was a lightly recruited two-star prospect at the time. It wasn’t until 2020, as a fifth-year senior, that Feaster became a key contributor for the defense.

Among the KU players who were with the football program when it resumed activities in the summer of 2020, 18 of them have since entered the transfer portal. Twelve were seniors in 2020 and two others were walk-ons.

In normal circumstances, none of the seniors who played this past year would’ve been eligible to return to KU and suit up again next season. But the NCAA’s blanket waiver that provides an extra year of eligibility for all fall sports athletes makes that possible if a football player so desires — and the coaches want him back.
