Baker baseball falls 9-3 to Mount Mercy in HAC tournament
The Baker University baseball team fell to Mount Mercy 9-3 on Sunday to exit the Heart of America Conference tournament in the semifinals.
Baker took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with Kolden Howerton scoring, and held it to 2-1 on a single from Howerton that brought Eli Young home in the third before Mount Mercy tied it up in the bottom of the fourth. The Mustangs held the Wildcats scoreless from there while jumping to a 9-2 lead after eight innings.
The Wildcats managed one more run in the ninth — Jaidon Bowers was batted in by Camden Karlin — but they fell far short of a win.
Mount Mercy went on Sunday afternoon to beat Grand View 10-4 and will now face No. 3 Central Methodist at 10 a.m. Monday in the championship game.
