Former LHS QB, Baker linebacker both earn weekly honors

A former Lawrence High School quarterback and a Baker linebacker out of Holton both earned player of the week honors this week in the Heart of America Conference.

Jackson Dooley of No. 13 Benedictine (3-1 overall) was named Offensive Player of the Week after the Ravens’ 45-14 win over St. Ambrose on Saturday. Dooley threw for 451 yards and five touchdown passes. His teammate, Harry Balke, was selected as Special Teams Player of the Week.

Canon Karn of No. 16 Baker (3-0 overall) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors and set a new record in the Wildcats’ 61-7 win over Culver-Stockton. Karn had a pick-six, forced a fumble and became Baker’s all-time tackling leader with 285, displacing Colton Miller’s total from 2007-2010.

Benedictine and Baker are scheduled to play each other this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Atchison.
