The Journal-World All-Area teams are carefully selected by the Journal-World sports staff.

Coach of the Year: Thomas Broxterman, Baldwin

Thomas Broxterman

Baldwin’s girls track and field team finished third in the 4A state meet, scoring 57 points and combining to earn five state titles, two of which were state-record holding relay times.

Player of the Year: Irelyn Kennedy, Baldwin

Irelyn Kennedy

Kennedy finished her Baldwin career as a state champion in the 1600-meter run and the 4×800-meter relay. She was the runner-up in the 3200-meter run and was a regional champion in all three events.

Izzy Brunkow, Eudora

Izzy Brunkow

Brunkow, the school record holder in pole vault, was the Frontier League and regional champion in the event before finishing third in the 4A state meet. She qualified in four events at the state meet and medaled in three.

Macie Corcoran, Perry-Lecompton

Macie Corcoran

Corcoran took third in the 300-meter hurdles and the 100-meter hurdles in the 4A state meet. She was part of the Kaws’ 4×400-meter relay and was part of two school record-setting relay teams.

Beatrice Essman, Free State

Beatrice Essman

Essman, a junior, competed in the 400-meter, 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay and is a school record holder in all events. She was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash at the 6A state meet after winning the race in prelims. She also finished as regional champ in the event.

Shea Griffith, Baldwin

Baldwin’s Shea Griffith runs the first leg of the 4×400-meter relay at the state track and field meet at Wichita State University on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Griffith won a state championship in the 4×400-meter relay and 4×800-meter relay teams and was the runner-up in the 800-meter dash. She broke a school record in the steeplechase and was second in the state in the event.

Kami Moore, Baldwin

Kami Moore

Moore, a junior, finished as a state champion in the 800-meter run, the 4×400-meter relay and the 4×800-meter relay, the latter two being state records as well. She was a regional and Frontier League champion in all three races.

Sadie Reynolds, Free State

Sadie Reynolds

Reynolds is a back-to-back state and regional champion in the discus after she won the event in the 2026 state meet. She’s the school record holder in the event and still has another year of throws left in her.

Addy Schooler, Tonganoxie

Addy Schooler

Schooler won the 4A state championship in discus for the second year in a row, while taking fourth in the high jump and seventh in the shot put. She set a school record in the discus for her season-best.

Grace Toner, Free State

Grace Toner

Toner’s freshman year at Free State ended with a third-place finish at state in the 800-meter dash, an event she won a regional championship in. She also finished seventh at state and second in the regional in the 1600-meter run, along with being a part of the eighth-place 4×800-meter relay team.

Brenika Rader, Eudora

Brenika Rader

The school record holder in high jump, Rader was a Frontier League and regional champion in the event before finishing second in the 4A state meet. She was one of the team’s top scorers this season.

Emmy Reed, Perry-Lecompton

Emmy Reed

Reed was the runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles and was a part of Perry-Lecompton’s second-place 4×400-meter relay team. She set three school records this season.

Juliana Yaluk-Shults, Veritas Christian

Juliana Yaluk-Shults

Yaluk-Shults broke six school records across various sprints during her sophomore campaign and earned a KASC state championship in the 100-meter run.
