The postseason has arrived for wrestling and boys swim and dive, and local athletes helped lead their teams in key moments during league championships. Here are this week’s selections for Journal-World Athletes of the Week:

Anderson Bateman, Free State

Free State’s Anderson Bateman swims the 100-yard freestyle in a swim and dive meet at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, in Lawrence.

Free State swimmer Anderson Bateman led the Free State boys swim team with 31 points as the Firebirds tied for fourth in the Sunflower League swim meet. Bateman finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle.

Imogen Matter, Lawrence

Lawrence wrestler Imogen Matter went 3-1 in the Sunflower League girls wrestling tournament, which the Lions placed eighth in. Matter had a 27-second pin, a 44-second pin and a pin with 15 seconds left in the match. Her only loss came in a close 6-4 decision.
