It has been a slow restart of the winter sports season, but a few local athletes have had strong performances in select games. Here are this week’s selections for Athletes of the Week:

Brynn Deterding, Eudora

The Eudora Cardinals girls basketball team is off to a 5-0 start to their season, and Brynn Deterding is a key factor in that. In the team’s 54-50 win over Spring Hill on Jan. 3, Deterding scored 25 points.

Jace Smith, Bishop Seabury

Jace Smith and the Bishop Seabury basketball team handed Northeast Kansas its first loss of the season in a 59-58 win for the Seahawks. Smith had 26 points, six assists, six rebounds and two steals in the game.
