The spring sports season is reaching its midway point as state competitions are around a month away. Local players are making big plays and getting crucial wins as they jockey for postseason positioning. Here are this week’s selections for Journal-World Athletes of the Week:

Katie Courter, Eudora

Courter and the Eudora Cardinals softball team played at Spring Hill twice on Tuesday and came away with a 9-0 win and a 9-4 win. In those games, Courter led the team with five hits while also bringing in three runs as the leadoff hitter.

Zane Shaw, Free State

Shaw pitched a no-hitter in five innings against Olathe North on April 10. He struck out five of his 15 batters faced. Of his 61 pitches thrown, 38 were strikes.
