The fall sports season is in week two and so are the Journal-World’s weekly selections of one boy and one girl who stood out over the course of the week’s athletic competitions. Here are this week’s selections:

Harper Jay, Lawrence High School

The Lawrence High School tennis team went 11-1 on Tuesday after beating Gardner Edgerton 3-1, Leavenworth 4-0 and Shawnee Mission North 4-0. Among the top performers was Harper Jay, who went 3-0 in singles competition on the day.

Ethan Smasal, Baldwin High School

Baldwin defeated Bishop Seabury on Tuesday 8-0 with three goals coming from Ethan Smasal, who normally plays defense but will play forward at times to take advantage of his speed and ball skills.
