More playoff games have brought out strong performances from around the area. Here are the Journal-World sports staff’s selections for Athletes of the Week:

Cayman Barnes, Free State High School

Cayman Barnes placed seventh at the 6A regional cross-country meet at Hummer Park in Topeka with a time of 19 minutes, 23.71 seconds. She led the Firebirds’ team, which placed second in the regional.

Josh Lavin, Lawrence High School

Josh Lavin and the Lawrence Lions defense played a strong, physical game against Olathe Northwest, which helped the Lions hold their lead and win 3-2 to advance to the regional championship. Lavin also had the assist on the first LHS goal of the game.
