Area golfers compete in state tournaments

Bishop Seabury’s Jace Hoffman shot a 14-over 156 at the 1A state boys golf championships in Hesston.

That meant that he placed the highest of the area’s five golfers competing at the state level on Monday and Tuesday, with a seventh-place finish.

Hoffman had previously tied for first at Washington-Cedar Hills Golf Course in regional competition.

Jack Randall of Free State had the lowest overall score among area competitors as he shot an 8-over 152 across two days in the 6A competition at Garden City. Teammates Henry Thompson (tied for 29th) and Cash Nelson (37th) followed behind Randall with final marks of a 12-over 156 and a 16-over 160, respectively.

Eudora’s Ty Deterding tied for 11th at the 4A level in McPherson with a 15-over 155.
