2023 Journal-World All-Area Girls Cross Country Team
The Journal-World All-Area teams are carefully selected by the Journal-World’s sports staff.
• Runner of the Year: Sydney Owens, Eudora High

Sydney Owens
Owens won the 4A individual girls state championship and a third-consecutive team state title to end a stellar career at Eudora. The senior All-State runner finished the season with a personal best (18:41), additionally breaking 19 minutes again at the state meet (18:47).

Barnard led Eudora to a third consecutive 4A girls championship title this season, including the 4A girls regional and Frontier League runner-up titles.
• Hanna Keltner, Eudora High

Hanna Keltner
Keltner finished her junior campaign as the 4A girls state runner-up behind her teammate, Owens. The All-State runner set a new personal best this season (18:15) and won four races this year, including the Frontier League girls championship and the 4A regional championship.

Kennedy finished her sophomore year with a fourth-place individual finish at the 4A girls state championship and pulled down a runner-up title at the 4A girls regional championship. Kennedy finished her season with a personal best (19:09) at the state meet.

Griffith finished an impressive freshman campaign with a fifth-place individual finish at the 4A girls state and Frontier League championship(s). Griffith finished her season with a personal best (19:44) at the state meet.

Johnson finished her junior season in the top 20 individual placers at the 4A girls state championship and inside the top 10 individual placers at the 4A girls regional championship. Johnson was named First Team All-Frontier League.

Kinnley Hoffines
Hoffines finished her Chieftains career with a 14th-place individual finish at the 4A girls regional championship and a 34th-place individual finish at the 4A girls state championship. Hoffines was named Second Team All-Frontier League.
• Brylee Burns, Free State
Burns finished the season with a personal best (19:45) with a 27th-place individual finish at the 6A girls state championship. Leading up to the big race, Burns netted a seventh-place finish at the 6A girls regional championship and an 18th-place finish at the Sunflower League girls championship.
• Cayman Barnes, Free State

Barnes finished her season with a personal best (19:45) with a 31st-place individual finish at the 6A girls state championship. Additional highlights for Barnes include an eighth-place individual finish at the 6A girls regional championship and 25th-place individual finish at the Sunflower League Championship.
• Josie Kim, Bishop Seabury Academy

Kim guided Seabury to an 11th-place team finish at the 1A regional championship with a season-best time (24:44.95) to end the year.

Roman Nose led LHS as a co-captain and the No. 1 returning runner for the Chesty Lions this season. She lowered her own time in each of her races this season and registered a season-low of 20:16.1 at the Baldwin Invite. The senior pushed LHS to a ninth-place team finish at the Olathe regional.
• Katie Bartlett, Perry-Lecompton

Bartlett finished her Kaw career with three top 25 finishes this fall, including a 10th-place individual finish at the Big 7 girls championship and a 16th-place individual finish at the 3A girls regional 5,000 meter finals.
