Baker football rolls as Woods closes in on NAIA rushing record

The 12th-ranked Baker University football team got three touchdowns and 146 rushing yards from JD Woods in a 33-3 win over Peru State on Saturday afternoon.

The former Lawrence High standout is now 24 yards shy of claiming the NAIA’s all-time rushing crown.

Baker is slated to play at Clarke University at 1 p.m. next Saturday in Dubuque, Iowa.

Woods, who already owns the NAIA touchdown record and Baker’s all-time rushing record, carried 21 times to get his yards, finishing the day with an average of seven yards per carry. He also added 54 receiving yards on two receptions.

The LHS grad scored on runs of 28 yards and 56 yards early in the fourth quarter to blow Saturday’s game open.

The Wildcats (3-1) outgained PSU (2-2) 437-139 in total yards during Saturday’s victory.
