Free State freshman Jack Randall earned his first individual victory during the first leg of the Sunflower League Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Deer Creek Golf Course.

Jack Randall ended a brilliant freshman campaign with a top-10 finish at the Class 6A state golf tournament on Tuesday at the Quail Ridge Golf Course.

Randall finished with a two-round score of 154, which was 10 shots over par for the tournament. Only seven individual golfers shot better than Randall, who finished in a tie for eighth place with two other golfers.

It took an impressive effort by Randall on the second day to climb up the individual leaderboard. He shot an 83 in the first round on Monday before surging back with a 71 in the final round on Tuesday. Randall notched a birdie on a par-four eighth hole and another birdie on the par-five 10th during his second round.

The performance at the state meet capped a strong debut season by Randall. He won an individual title at regionals, leading the Firebirds to a runner-up finish that allowed the entire team to qualify for the state meet. He also won an individual crown during the first leg of the Sunflower League Invitational.

Senior Reece Gray was the only other Free State golfer to compete on the second day, as the rest of the team missed the cut. He ended his high school career with a total score of 180, shooting 85 on the first day and wrapping things up with a 95 in the second round.

Blue Valley freshman Chance Rinkol won the individual title with a score of 147 (+3) over two days. Blue Valley also won the team title, posting a total of 306 on both days.

In Class 3A, Perry-Lecompton senior Kaden Tarwater closed out his career with a top-10 finish at the state tournament. He finished with a two-round score of 160 (+18) at the Hesston Golf Course.

Tarwater was better on the second day, shooting a 76 on Tuesday after carding a 84 in the first round. During his final round golfing for the Kaws, Tarwater was able to record a birdie on the second hole on a par-four.

Bishop Seabury junior Will Hedges ended up in a tie for 13th place as an individual at the Class 2A state golf tournament, which took place at the Salina Municipal Golf Course. Hedges registered a total mark of 159 (+19) for the event.

Hedges tallied a 81 on the first day before shaving off a few strokes in the second round. Hedges recorded a 78, which was highlighted by a birdie to finish a par-five seventh hole in four strokes. No other BSA golfer made it to the second day.
