Eudora's track and field program poses for a photo after winning a pair of regional titles during Friday's regional meet at Tonganoxie High School on May 21, 2021. The Cardinals swept the boys and girls division in their final event before the state track meet.

Eudora’s track and field program took home not one but two regional crowns on Friday during its Class 4A regional meet at Tonganoxie.

The Cardinals scored 177 points in the varsity girls division, which was well ahead of runner-up Baldwin’s mark of 78 points. EHS finished with a total score of 166 on the boys side, while Bishop Miege came in second with a mark of 104.

Eudora won 11 events to highlight a long list of state qualifiers during a stellar day by the program. Seven of those victories came on the girls side, which included a first-place finish in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 51.80.

Sydney Owens won two individual events, finishing first in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:32.20 and the 3,200-meter run with a mark of 12:36.32. Maya Pattison placed first in the 100-meter run with a mark of 12.97. Phoebe Fletcher won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.80.

In the field events, Chloe Thakker took first in high jump (5-3) and Alyssa Chapman clinched a win in pole vault (9-6) for EHS.

Coming off a Frontier League title, Eudora boys earned four first-place finishes at the regional meet. The 4×400-meter relay team capped off the dominant meet with a winning time of 3:28.06.

The Cardinals also swept the three throwing events. Matthew Karten won discus with a toss of 140-1. Conor Dunback’s launch of 159-11 was good enough for first in the javelin competition. Darrell Higgins recorded a throw of 48-4.5 to win the shot put event.

At the same meet, Baldwin won both the girls 4×400-meter relay (4:15.45) and the girls 4×800-meter relay (10:10.30) en route to their runner-up finish. Tonganoxie’s lone regional title was claimed by Blake Poje, who won the boys high jump event after clearing 6-4.

In Class 6A, Free State’s track and field program won six events between its two teams at the regional meet at Wichita Northwest on Friday. FSHS boys finished as runner-up in the final standings, while the girls ended up in a tie for third place.

The Firebirds swept the 4×800-meter relay races. Isabelle Pro, Delaney Rockers, Ella Marshall and Samantha Whittlesey won the girls race with a time of 10:18.67. Jack Keathley-Helms, Ben Shryock, Ethan Sharp and Brock Cordova recorded a time of 8:15.00 to win the boys race.

Pro placed first in the girls 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:52.29, while Shryock secured a regional title in the boys 1,600-meter run with a mark of 4:29.09. Reese Hulcher won girls high jump (5-04.00) and Isabella Evans was victorious in girls pole vault (10-00.00) for FSHS.

Lawrence High won a pair of individual regional titles at the Olathe East regional meet on Friday, both of which came on the girls slide. Amaya Harris won the javelin competition with a launch of 121-06.00, while Bella Kirkwood captured a win in long jump with a leap of 18-00.50.

This year’s state track meet will be split up by classes and last three days at Cessna Stadium. Classes 5A and 6A are slated to compete on Thursday, while Classes 3A and 4A will be in action on Friday. The lower two classes will then conclude the event on Saturday.
