Eudora’s baseball team pulled off not one but two upsets en route to a regional title on Tuesday at Benedictine College.

The Cardinals, who were seeded No. 14 in the Class 4A East after a 7-13 regular season, knocked off two teams with better records and qualified for the Class 4A state tournament. EHS defeated No. 3 Atchison (14-4) in the opener, 10-8, and then beat No. 6 Tonganoxie (13-7) in the regional championship, 3-1.

In the opener, Eudora (9-13) exploded for five runs in the fourth inning after scoring two runs in the first and two more in the second. Gavin Hobson, who paced EHS with four RBIs, was one of two players with multiple hits; he went 2-for-3 with one walk and one run scored. Trenton Long also went 2-for-3 and had one RBI and one walk.

Keaton Herron, Sebastian Lewis, Dylan Meier and Taggert Courter each recorded one hit for the Cardinals in the first game. Lewis was credited with the win on the mound after giving up five earned runs on five hits over 3 1/3 innings.

In the nightcap against Tonganoxie, Eudora recorded nine hits and was led by a 3-for-4 showing from Bryce Clark in the leadoff spot. Hobson, Herron, Lewis, Long, Meier and Zeke Reazin each had one hit as well.

Jaykob Lemonds earned the victory on the mound. He didn’t allow any hits over 4 2/3 innings. He gave up one run and struck out one batter. Long tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, surrendering just one hit in the process.

The Class 4A state tournament is slated to take place on May 27 and May 28 at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina.
