Four local bowlers finish in top 20 at Class 6A state meet

Four male bowlers from local schools earned medals by placing inside the top 20 at the Class 6A state tournament on Friday at Northrock Lanes in Wichita.

Lawrence High junior Carson Toews led the way with a fourth-place finish. He rolled a series score of 680, which included a 252 in the second game. Another Lawrence junior, Josh King, posted a 668 series en route to an eighth-place finish, including a 233 in his second game. Lawrence sophomore Maison Albarado finished in 20th place with a series score of 604.

Free State, meanwhile, was led by junior AJ Baker, who took 11th with a series score of 653. Baker’s best game was his last one, in which he bowled a 226.

As a team, LHS placed sixth out of eight squads after entering the state meet with the highest regional mark. The Firebirds took eighth, and Wichita Northwest won the state title.

In the girls competition, junior Karla Tyler led Lawrence High with a series score of 519. Free State didn’t make the state meet as a team, but it did send an individual qualifier: junior Ashley Edwinson, who posted a series score of 417.

The Lawrence High girls placed seventh in the team standings. Haysville-Campus won the team title in the girls division for the fourth year in a row.
