FSHS girls basketball earns 46-39 win over Mill Valley
Free State’s girls basketball team got back in the win column with a 46-39 road victory over Mill Valley on Tuesday. It marks the team’s first win since a 40-38 win at Shawnee Heights on Dec. 8 in the second game under first-year head coach Chris Linner.
It was a game of runs the entire night by both teams, but the Firebirds (2-3) were able to make the last big push in the end. The performance snapped a brief skid for FSHS, which had dropped both of its games since coming back from an extended break in January entering Tuesday.
Mill Valley, meanwhile, fell to 1-6 on the year.
Senior Shannon Clarke led Free State in scoring with 22 points in the win. She has now scored at least 20 points in all three contests this month. Senior Daeci Walker added 14 points to join her teammate in double figures.
Free State will play host to Shawnee Mission South at 4 p.m. Saturday.
