Free State boys basketball defeats Grandview in overtime

Free State’s boys basketball earned its second win in as many days to begin the 2021 portion of its schedule.

Despite playing in the second game of a back-to-back, the Firebirds had enough juice to pull out a 52-50 overtime victory over Grandview on Saturday evening at Grandview. Free State (No. 9 in Class 6A) improved to 3-1 on the year with its latest victory.

Kris Daniels led the way with 14 points for the Firebirds in the win. He drilled four 3-pointers, all of which came in the first half. Andrew Piper finished with 13 points, which included seven points in the final period.

Jailen Thompson and Cooper Jackson both ended up with double figures as well. Thompson tallied 11 points, while Jackson registered 10 points.

Free State will play Olathe North on Tuesday.
