Lawrence girls fall to Shawnee Mission West
After an extended break due to quarantine and winter break, Lawrence High’s girls basketball team suffered a 63-19 loss to Shawnee Mission West in its first game back Friday night at LHS.
Shawnee Mission West jumped out to a 24-7 lead after the opening quarter, and never looked back. The visitors had two players finish in double figures.
“It was good for us to play a team that good and have a chance to play their starters until near the buzzer,” LHS head coach Jeff Dickson said. “That will give us good experience that will help us in the future.”
Lawrence was led by Layla Harjo, who ended up with 8 points in the loss. Azura Clark also finished with 5 points, but contributed in all aspects of the game. Jayden Wilson, Hailey Ramirez and Amaya Marshall all scored for LHS as well.
“Azura Clark was amazing tonight,” Dickson said. “She played with so much heart and toughness. She was so outsized, but not out-worked or out-hustled. This was a great building-block game for her.”
Lawrence (1-4) will play host to Olathe Northwest at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
