It was quite the day for both Lawrence High and Free State at the Class 6A regional bowling meet Wednesday afternoon at Mission Bowl. Not only did three of the four teams qualify for state, but one squad even came away with a regional title

Lawrence’s boys bowling squad secured a regional crown by scoring 3,564 as a team, while having three bowlers finish inside the top-four on the individual leaderboard. Junior Carson Toews led LHS by posting a series score 718 to grab a runner-up finish.

Senior Wheeler Battaglia-Davis and junior Josh King were right behind Toews as well. Battaglia-Davis finished third with a series score of 696, while King came in fourth with a mark of 682. Sophomore Maison Albarado also rolled a 622 for the Lions.

Free State’s boys bowling team finished in second place, which was still good enough to qualify for the state tournament as a team. Behind three top-10 finishes from individuals, the Firebirds posted a team score of 3,373.

Sophomore CJ Rickert claimed sixth with a 656, while freshman Koda Gosser recorded seventh with a 650. Junior Warren Williams netted ninth by posting a 628.

On the girls side, LHS took second as a team with a total score of 2,518. Senior Bean Foster led the Lions with a series score of 520, which was good enough for fifth as an individual. Junior Georgia Blackwood placed seventh by recording a series score of 515.

Free State junior Ashley Edwinson qualified for state as an individual by rolling a 515 on her way to a sixth-place finish.

The Class 6A state tournament will take place at Northrock Lanes in Wichita on Friday, March 5.
