Lawrence boys defeat Olathe North for seventh consecutive win

Lawrence High’s boys basketball team will head into its rivalry matchup with plenty of momentum following a 46-42 win over Olathe North at LHS on Thursday.

The Lions (15-1, No. 3 in Class 6A) have now won seven games in a row after earning back-to-back victories on Wednesday and Thursday. LHS raced out to a 20-13 lead in the first quarter and eventually held off Olathe North after scoring just 10 total points in the second half.

Senior guard Zeke Mayo paced the Lions with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including a 3-for-5 clip from long range. Mayo added a team-high eight rebounds, seven of which came on the defensive end.

Junior Avion Nelson was the only other LHS player to end up in double figures after he finished with 12 points. Nelson knocked down 5-for-8 attempts from the floor. Senior Jackson Dooley recorded five rebounds as well.

The Lions shot 37.8% from the floor as a team in the win.

Lawrence will travel to Free State at 7 p.m. Friday.
