FSHS girls put up strong fight in 58-48 loss at Shawnee Mission Northwest

Free State’s girls basketball team was handed a 58-48 defeat by Shawnee Mission Northwest on the road on Tuesday.

Shawnee Mission Northwest (No. 2 in Class 6A) started in front by grabbing a 21-10 lead out of the gate. The Firebirds never went away, however, putting together one of their better all-around performances of the 2020-21 campaign.

Anna McIntire battled in the post all night against a talented frontcourt. Evy Harrell, Thayu Kimori and Robin Todd all hit big shots for FSHS. Despite being face guarded all game, senior Shannon Clarke led Free State with 15 points in the loss.

FSHS (4-11) will travel to Lawrence at 7 p.m. Friday.
