Weather impacts schedule for local basketball teams
Schedule changes are nothing new this high school sports season, but Mother Nature spoiled what was supposed to be a night full of basketball games on Tuesday.
Free State’s boys basketball will have to wait just one more day to face Shawnee Mission North on the road. That game was moved to 6 p.m. Wednesday, as the Firebirds (16-2) look to extend their eight-game win streak.
Lawrence High’s boys basketball squad (13-1) also has a win streak going, having won its last five contests entering this week. Lawrence’s home meeting with Olathe North, which was scheduled for Tuesday, was moved to 7 p.m. Thursday.
On the girls side, LHS (2-14) will now travel to Olathe North at 6 p.m. Wednesday instead of that game taking place on Tuesday. Free State’s girls basketball team (4-10) moved its home matchup with Shawnee Mission North to Monday, Feb. 22.
All of these schedule adjustments will make things more difficult ahead of this week’s rivalry matchup.
Free State boys will host Lawrence on Friday, while LHS girls will welcome FSHS that same night. Tipoff for both games is slated for 7 p.m.
