LHS head coach Jeff Dickson celebrates with his team after they took a big lead over Shawnee Mission North during a game Wednesday night at LHS on Jan. 20, 2021.

Thursday was another step in the right direction for the Lawrence High girls basketball team during its 56-33 road loss to Olathe West.

Lawrence (2-13) was able to hold Olathe West (6-2) to just 6 points in the third quarter. The defensive showing came after the Owls had scored 31 points in the first half, but was a sign of what the Lions can do when they lock it on that end of the floor.

“We really stepped up in the third quarter on defense,” LHS head coach Jeff Dickson said. “They are a talented bunch and we got better tonight playing so hard against such a great opponents.”

Cyrenity Hardy knocked down three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for the Lions.

Lawrence will be back at it on Friday, when it hosts Olathe East at 7 p.m.
