Lawrence High sophomore Serenity Keo (22) drives to the rim past Shawnee Mission North's Jessica Brown (35) Wednesday night at LHS on Jan. 20, 2021. The Lions secured a 41-36 win to snap a four-game skid.

Lawrence High’s girls basketball team dropped a 47-37 decision to Shawnee Mission East Tuesday night at LHS.

Wins have been hard to come by for a young Lions (2-12, 1-7 Sunflower League) squad this season, though they were right there in the mix with the Lancers (6-7, 3-4 Sunflower League) all night. LHS even posted a 15-10 advantage in the third quarter.

“We are right there,” Lawrence head coach Jeff Dickson said. “Our kids are battling and competing so hard. We took several positive steps tonight.”

Sophomores Serenity Keo and Amaya Marshall were the catalysts for the Lions on the offensive end. Keo paced the team with 11 points, while Marshall ended up with 10 points. Daphne Bracker Sturm battled in the post all night for Lawrence.

Lucy Hardy, Hailey Ramirez, Azura Clark and Jayden Wilson played with great effort on both ends of the floor for the hosts.

“It was so fun to watch these kids compete and give it their all,” Dickson said.

LHS will travel to Olathe West at 7 p.m. Thursday.
