Veritas boys record a pair of milestones in double overtime win

A double overtime win against Life Prep on Saturday night was extra meaningful for the Veritas boys basketball team. Not only was the 68-64 victory a hard-fought home win, but the Eagles (10-4) also recorded a pair of milestones in the process.
The victory marked the 100th career win at Veritas for head coach Carl Huslig, who is in his seventh season at the helm. Senior guard Will Rau also reached the 1,000-point mark in his career following another prolific scoring performance.
After a 29-point outing in a rivalry win over Bishop Seabury earlier this week, Rau poured in a game-high 34 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor in Veritas’ 4-point win over Life Prep. Rau knocked down all but two of his 13 attempts at the free throw line, while also finishing with 12 rebounds, six assists and six steals.
Jordan Donaldson was the only other Veritas player to finish in double figures by producing 10 points. Life Prep fell to 8-8 with the narrow loss.
The Eagles demonstrated perseverance in their second win of the week, posting a 10-6 advantage in the second overtime period. Yet those late-game theatrics were only made possible because Veritas made a late charge with a 19-point outburst in the fourth quarter.
Veritas will host Christ Prep Academy at 7 p.m. Monday.
