Free State’s girls basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start in its 46-26 road loss to Olathe South on Friday.

The Falcons (5-5) jumped out to a 10-2 lead after knocking down some early outside shots. Conversely, the Firebirds (4-6) struggled to hit shots and it led to them facing a 16-5 deficit after the opening period.

Free State played much better in the second half, but wasn’t able to close the gap in its latest league loss. Shannon Clarke led the team with 15 points in a losing effort. Evy Harrell netted 9 points, while Kenzie Marcum was the only other Firebird to produce anything on offensive end.

FSHS will travel to Notre Dame Sion at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
