Lawrence High sophomore Serenity Keo (22) goes up strong for a layup over Shawnee Mission North's Anna Harrison (33) during a game Wednesday night at LHS on Jan. 20, 2021.

Lawrence High’s girls basketball was unable to find much of an offensive rhythm in a 52-14 loss to Lansing Wednesday night at LHS.

The Lions were held scoreless during the entire first quarter and only managed to get on the scoreboard after a pair of baskets by sophomore Serenity Keo in the second period. By then, Lansing (No. 7 in Class 5A) already had a 28-4 lead at halftime.

Lawrence (2-10) was stymied by a talented Lansing (9-2) squad, as it managed just 10 more points in the second half. From an individual perspective, Keo led the way for the Lions after finishing with 8 points. Lucy Hardy finished with 3 points on her lone triple, while Azura Clark knocked down a pair of free throws.

On the other end, Lansing posted double-digit efforts in each of the first three periods and scored as many as 17 in the third quarter. Kamryn Farris finished with 18 points to pace the visitors in the win.

LHS will be back in action on Friday when it travels to Shawnee Mission Northwest (No. 2 in Class 6A) for another tough matchup. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

“We are fighters,” LHS head coach Jeff Dickson said. “We are battling. We will not give in to frustration. Our kids have heart and we are going to keep working.”
