Thursday’s high school sports schedule impacted by weather

Rainy weather and wet field conditions wiped out a day of local high school sports events on Thursday.

Free State’s softball team was slated to have a home matchup against Shawnee Mission Northwest. That game has now been moved to 5:30 p.m. Friday. The Firebirds, who have won back-to-back state titles, are 3-0 to start the year.

Lawrence High’s softball team had its home game against Olathe East postponed. A makeup date for that matchup has not been announced. The Lions (2-3, 1-1 Sunflower League) are coming off a 5-0 road win over Shawnee Mission West.

Lawrence’s baseball squad was scheduled to travel to Olathe West on Thursday, but that game has been pushed back a day. The Lions (5-2, 2-1 Sunflower League) will now have back-to-back games, traveling to Olathe West on Friday and hosting Gardner Edgerton at 1 p.m. Saturday.

A few other local sports events were already scheduled for Friday: Free State’s track and field program is slated to compete in a meet at William Chrisman High School, and Lawrence High’s track and field team will be in action during an event at the Olathe District Activity Center.

FSHS baseball will also travel to Shawnee Mission East at 4 p.m. Friday.
