Free State boys bowling claims 6th at state meet

For the second season in a row, Free State’s varsity boys bowling team came away with a sixth-place finish at the state meet.

The Firebirds posted a team score of 3,421 to place sixth out nine teams at the Class 6A state tournament Thursday afternoon at Northrock Lanes in Wichita. Olathe East won the team title with a score of 3,618. Derby and Garden City each finished with 3,444 to earn hardware as well.

Sophomore Michael Tennyson was the lone Firebird to place in the top 20, as he posted a series score of 631 to come in 19th place. Kaden Whitehurst of Garden City won the individual title with a series score of 759, which included a perfect score of 300 during his second game.

Senior Ryan Neff (624), senior Porter Neidow (624) and sophomore AJ Baker (622) all finished inside the top 25 for the Firebirds. Freshman Maison Albarado, who was Lawrence High’s lone representative in the boys division, came in 43rd place with a series score of 579.

On the girls side, Lawrence senior Emilie Rodman rolled a 489 to come in 54th place. Free State sophomore Ashley Edwinson took 57th with a 481. Junction City’s Savannah Adams won the individual title, while Haysville-Campus won the team crown.
