LHS girls fall to Wichita Heights in sub-state opener

Lawrence High’s girls basketball team was eliminated in the first round of sub-state with a 61-16 road loss to Wichita Heights on Tuesday.

The Lions ended their season with a 5-16 clip, while the Falcons improved to 20-1. Heights will face Washburn Rural in the sub-state title game at 7 p.m. Friday.

“Heights certainly lived up to their billing,” LHS head coach Jeff Dickson said. “They were able to dictate all action on both ends of the floor. They are as good and disciplined as any group we have faced all year.”

The Lions were in a 27-2 hole after the opening period and gave up 19 more points in the second quarter. Ozi Ajekwu and Geme Ajekwu each finished with 4 points. Senior Ella Stewart scored 3 points in her final game with LHS.
