Local basketball games postponed due to inclement weather

Mother Nature impacted a full slate of area basketball games Friday night.

A crosstown clash between Bishop Seabury and Veritas was one of the many area basketball games postponed due to the threat of inclement weather. No makeup date was announced for the game, which was slated to take place at Haskell Indian Nations University.

Saturday’s game between Mid-Buchanan and Bishop Seabury’s boys basketball (3-0, No. 1 in Class 2A) was cancelled. Both Bishop Seabury basketball squads will host KC Christian on Tuesday, while Veritas will travel to Manhattan CHIEF.

Lawrence High’s home doubleheader against Shawnee Mission West was also postponed. A makeup date has not been announced. LHS boys and girls teams, both of which are 3-3 on the year, are slated to host Olathe Northwest on Tuesday.

Free State postponed its home doubleheader against Gardner Edgerton. Both FSHS teams will travel to Olathe North on Tuesday. The Free State girls are 4-3 after back-to-back wins to start 2020, while the FSHS boys are 5-1 on the year.

In addition, Baldwin, Eudora and Perry-Lecompton all postponed basketball games slated to take place on Friday. Baldwin boys will now face Kansas City Piper on Feb. 5. No makeup date has been announced for Perry-Lecompton’s road doubleheader with Riverside or Eudora’s home doubleheader against Louisburg.

Swim meet also postponed

Both city swim teams will not be in action this weekend. Free State and LHS boys swim were slated to compete in a meet at the Shawnee Mission Aquatic Center on Saturday. That meet has now been postponed to Monday.
