Lawrence High’s wrestling team earned its second win in a row Thursday night by defeating Blue Valley in a dual at Blue Valley High School.
The Lions won nine matches on their way to a 48-24 victory over the Tigers. LHS has won two of its three duals to start the 2020-21 campaign, which will feature a lot more duals to limit having too many wrestlers and teams competing in one venue.
Andrew Honas (106-pound weight class), Jack Elsten (113), Hunter Girard (120), Kevin Honas (126), Zach Razak (138) and Tucker Corbin (182) all won by fall. Logan Farrell won by a major decision in the 132-pound weight class, while Daniel Parrish won by decision in the 145-pound weight class.
Trey Medina also won in the 152-pound weight class, helping the Lions take a 42-0 lead by the time his match was finished. Three of Lawrence’s four losses came because it had an opening in its lineup.
LHS will compete in a triangular at Olathe North on Wednesday. Competition is slated to begin at 5 p.m.

Four local players make All-State football team
Three Lawrence High players and one Free State athlete ended up on the Class 6A all-state team, which were selected by members of the Kansas Football Coaches Association.
Senior standout Devin Neal was the lone running back to make the list after a strong season for the Lions. The KU commit ended up with 1,370 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground and also had 16 catches for 186 yards and two scores.
Senior center Porter Dannevik helped create those running lanes, which earned him an all-state selection as one of five offensive linemen featured on the all-state team. Senior linebacker Cole Mondi, who anchored a strong LHS defense, also netted an all-state honor.
The Lions went 9-1 on the year, with their lone loss of the season coming to the eventual state champion in Derby.
Senior Joey Wood was the lone Free State player to make the list, earning a selection as a kicker and punter. Wood went 10-of-11 on point-after-attempts and 2-for-3 on field goal attempts as a senior. He averaged 35.0 yards per punt, and had three punts downed inside the 10-yard line.
