On the second night of a back-to-back stretch of games, Lawrence High’s girls basketball team faltered down the stretch in a 48-34 road loss to Gardner Edgerton Friday night.

The Lions, who earned their first win of the season on Thursday, couldn’t get much of an offensive rhythm going early on. Gardner Edgerton eventually pulled away with 14 points in the third period and 16 points in the fourth quarter.

“Defensively, I thought we played well and improved for a good portion of the game,” LHS head coach Jeff Dickson said. “We started to run out of gas and (Gardner Edgerton) hit a strong run in the fourth to spread us out after we cut it to 7 (points).”

Sophomore guard Amaya Marshall, who scored 18 points against Junction City on Thursday in her first game of the year, finished with a team-high 9 points on the road. She hit three triples for the Lions.

Sophomore Lucy Hardy registered 8 points to finish second on the team in scoring. Sophomores Serenity Keo and Daphne Bracker Sturm each posted 6 points.

Lawrence is now 1-3 to start the season.

“They have nothing to hang their heads about,” Dickson said. “We battled and the better team won this round. But we are committed to each other and to getting better and that’s what we will do.”

LHS will travel to Blue Valley West at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
