Gary Woodland finished out golf’s first major of 2020 with his best day since the opening round of the PGA Championship.

The former University of Kansas golfer birdied twice on the back nine Sunday at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, where he posted an even 70 during the final round.

Woodland finished plus-2 for the major and tied for 58th on the leaderboard, well back of champion Collin Morikawa (-13).

A Topeka native, Woodland completed the weekend strong with birdies on the 10th and 15th holes, draining long putts on each.

An errant tee shot on the seventh led to Woodland’s only bogey of the day, a double due to his six strokes on the 340-yard par-4 hole.

After opening the championship at minus-3 and just outside the top 10, Woodland registered a 72 on Friday and ended the third round with 73 strokes.
