Jayhawks sweep Mavericks to start 2-0
Kansas volleyball won its second-straight match to open up the season by sweeping the Omaha Mavericks, 3-0, Tuesday night inside Baxter Arena. KU won the first set by a 25-11 margin and then recorded a 25-16 victory in the second set.
After going up 2-0 through the first two sets, where the Jayhawks outscored the Mavericks 50-27, the visitors trailed by a 12-7 margin early in the third set. Kansas then used a 6-1 run to tie it up at 13-13 and carried that momentum into the second half of the set. After a back-and-forth stretch, the Jayhawks pulled out the 25-23 set victory following a service error by the Mavericks.
Kansas was led by freshman Gracie Van Driel, who finished with a team-high 13 kills. Junior Sara Nielsen also played a huge role in the Jayhawks success as she finished with a team-best 29 assists on the night.
Kansas will travel to the UCF Challenge for three matches in three days this weekend in Orlando, Fla.
