Jayhawks fall in three sets to No. 4 Texas

Kansas volleyball fell in three sets against No. 4 Texas on Saturday afternoon inside Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena in the first of its two meetings with the Longhorns this season.

In the first set, the Jayhawks kept it close, keeping the Longhorns lead to under 5 throughout the set. Ultimately, KU fell in the set 25-19 after the Longhorns used a 7-0 run to close it out.

Kansas came into the second set looking to take an early advantage as both teams were tied at 16. It ended up as a back-and-forth battle all set long, but it was the Longhorns who came out on top, using a 9-2 run to take the 25-18 set win.

Texas carried that momentum into the third set, winning the set 25-15. KU’s Ashley Smith led the team offensively, ending the match with a team-high 10 kills. Sara Nielsen’s 31 assists on the afternoon were also a team-best.

Kansas hosts Oklahoma at 11 a.m. Saturday.
