Area football roundup: THS cruises past Spring Hill to stay unbeaten through 6 weeks

Tonganoxie was never tested in a 41-0 road win over Spring Hill Friday night.

The Chieftains scored 14 points in the first quarter alone to help set the tone. Cooper Cunningham piled up 220 yards and one touchdown on 18 attempts to lead the THS ground attack once again.

Blake Poje completed 15-of-23 passes for 293 yards and four scores to provide plenty of offense through the air. Elijah Tyner caught eight passes for 161 yards and one touchdown, while Dallas Bond finished with 124 yards and three scores on six catches. Connor Searcy registered eight tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

Tonganoxie (6-0) will travel to Baldwin next week.

Eudora 35, Ottawa 0

Eudora earned its second win of the season with a 35-0 victory over Ottawa at home.

The Cardinals scored 14 points in the opening period to help give second-year head Sean Hayden his third win. Cael Lynch and Octavius Lyles both recorded touchdown runs in the first quarter, giving EHS a 14-0 advantage at halftime.

Lynch added a 19-yard touchdown run in the second half for good measure.

EHS (2-4) will travel to Paola next week.


Jefferson 8, Perry-Lecompton 3

Perry-Lecompton fell back to .500 on the year with a 8-3 loss at Jefferson West.

The Kaws jumped out to a 3-0 lead on 30-yard field goal by Ticiano Gonzalez in the first quarter. Jefferson West scored all 8 of its points in the second period on an interception return and a successful conversion, which proved to be enough to get the job done.

Thad Metcalfe caught four passes for 36 yards in the loss for PLHS.

Perry-Lecompton (3-3) will host Topeka Hayden next week.

Bonner Springs 63, Baldwin 6

Baldwin managed just one score in a 63-6 road loss to Bonner Springs on Friday.

The Bulldogs have now lost all six games this season, all of which have been to Frontier League foes. Baldwin has scored just 6 points over its last two games, recording 50 total points during its 0-6 start to the year.

Baldwin will host Tonganoxie next week.

Sunrise 62, Veritas 14

Veritas suffered a 62-14 loss to Sunrise Christian Academy on the road Friday night.

The loss snapped a two-game skid for the Eagles. Andrew Windheuser paced the team with 169 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 34 attempts. He also netted nine tackles on the defensive side of the ball. Ben Hanson finished with five stops in the loss.

Veritas (2-5) will host Cair Paravel next week.
