Lindenmeyer ready for next challenge after successful career at Baldwin
Baldwin senior Carly Lindenmeyer begins the 400-meter run during the state track meet at Wichita State's Cessna Stadium Saturday on May 25, 2019.
Four. That is the number of times Baldwin’s Carly Lindenmeyer went to the podium in the 2019 state track meet at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium.
To close out her strong career with the Bulldogs, Lindenmeyer netted three individual medals along with a state title in the Class 4A girls 4×400-meter relay. Lindenmeyer finished fourth in long jump, fifth in the 100 hurdles and sixth in the 400-meter run.
Lindenmeyer scored 22 total points in her final action for Baldwin. Still, it was not as satisfying of an end as she would have liked.
“I’m a little disappointed with my results,” Lindenmeyer said. “I didn’t place as high as I wanted to.”
But those are the expectations that Lindenmeyer has come to embrace since committing to track.
Lindenmeyer had been playing both basketball and track since moving to Baldwin just before her eight grade year. She accomplished a number of feats in both sports.
As a freshman, Lindenmeyer placed seventh in long jump at the state meet and ran the third leg of a 4×100-meter relay team that claimed a bronze medal. BHS won a state title that year as well. Lindenmeyer was the anchor of both the 4×100-meter relay team (third) and 4×400-meter relay team (first) during the state meet her sophomore season. She also notched third in long jump.
As a junior, finished fourth in long jump and registered a fourth-place finish as the anchor of the 4×400-meter relay. Baldwin’s girls basketball team also won a state title that year. In her senior season, however, Lindenmeyer chose to focus on track. She elected to quit basketball, which allowed her to compete in indoor track during the winter season.
“That was awesome, I met a lot of people and met a lot of coaches,” Lindenmeyer said. “That experience and the repetition of my new races like the 100 hurdles was really, really beneficial. Without that, I wouldn’t be here.”
During the indoor meet season, coaches began to contact Lindenmeyer about being a heptathlete. She eventually decided to commit to MidAmerica Nazarene University on a scholarship.
It led to a more unique outdoor season for Lindenmeyer this past spring. She competed in several different events in practice, preparing her for what is next. Lindenmeyer enjoyed the diversity of her daily schedule.
“Practice is different every single day,” Lindenmeyer said. “It is a lot of fun. I’m usually the first one at practice and the last one to leave practice.”
That commitment to a multitude of events led for an eventful day during Lindenmeyer’s last high school track meet.
Due to multiple postponements, Lindenmeyer competed in all three of her individual events Saturday. As a result, there was not a finals heat in long jump, and there weren’t preliminary races for the two track events.
Lindenmeyer still leaped 16-02.75 to notch her fourth state medal in long jump. She also ran a time of 16.21 in the 100 hurdles and recorded a time of 1:01.15 in the 400-meter run. This year marked the first time Lindenmeyer had competed in either of those two races.
To close out the meet, Lindenmeyer was the anchor of the 4×400-meter relay team, which included Josephine Boyle, Natalie Beiter and Isabelle Harvey. They ran a time of 4:06.84 to win another state title in the event, putting a fitting end to Lindenmeyer’s prolific career.
“I’m going to miss the (relay) team,” Lindenmeyer said. “I love the girls on my team. That feeling when we won a couple years ago was an irreplaceable feeling.”
